We’re not in any way proposing that male nannies were somehow unpopular until recently, but they have generally been something of an enigma in the childcare world, something of rarity.
A lot of the lovely clients we meet for discussions are after nannies in London that embody a fairly typical package e.g. taking charge of the emotional wellbeing and safety of their children and/or household within a laid out timescale, with the assumption usually being that our wonderful nanny agency London staff will hand pick a few ideal candidates… female candidates.
So, are there any glaring benefits to taking the road less travelled and opting for a male nanny?
Rough and Tumble
Male nannies (mannies) are ideally suited to households with large numbers of – you guessed it – boys. The typical nanny may rule with ‘the look’ and ‘the tone’, and the same can certainly be said for mannies. However, male nannies tend to be a bit more equipped for certain popular activities commonly thought of as being part of a boy’s childhood e.g. football, touch rugby, breaking up sibling bickering and so on.
Broad Experience
Single parent families (particularly those with an absent father) could benefit from the presence of a reliable, educated, dedicated male figure (even if it’s just a few afternoons per week). Of course, every family is different, but providing children with as much scope to develop social skills and foster healthy bonding techniques with the folks of both sexes in their lives could be made easier with a male nanny.
