Nanny types & Costs

Role of the nanny
In general, a nanny works for a family where both parents are working and she/he will be able to take full charge over the house during the day, keep the fridge stocked and call the plumber if the pipe breaks. Nannies will be flexible but in return they will expect you to be fair to them by sticking to the agreed hours as much as possible.

Live-in nannies
Working hours are upon agreement but generally hours are breakfast time until bath time. The nanny will have her own bedroom (Bathroom). These nannies are very popular and are looked at as a family member and should be treated as one. They will normally do 1 - 2 babysitting nights a week, upon agreement. It is usual for the live-in nanny to receive two full days off per week and holidays are negotiable although, as with mothers’ help, two to four weeks a year is standard.

Salary: £275-£450 net per week.
Salaries are totally dependent on the nanny's age and experience and Peek-a-boo will advise on a realistic remuneration obtainable by each individual applicant.

Live-out nannies (also known as daily)

Many families looking for a permanent nanny are now choosing a daily nanny in preference to a live-in. Some parents feel that their life style is better suited to having a nanny who works set hours. Normal hours are 8am - 6pm with some small variations. Babysitting is paid overtime and holidays are upon agreement, although the standard is 4 weeks per year.

Salary: £8-10 per hour net

Please note that all salaries are totally dependent on the nanny’s age and experience and Peek-a-boo will advise on a realistic remuneration obtainable by each individual applicant.

Tutor/teacher nannies
British Nannies and Tutors or Governesses are viewed by many families worldwide to be the best available, given their professional training, previous experience and of course English language skills. British nannies are sought after as in order to teach manners and etiquette, have good vocabulary, spelling and English language. Many families will also require the nanny to have knowledge of Early Years Education and be able to assist with homework and language development. Some families will insist that the nanny dresses fairly formally whilst at work, whilst others take a more informal approach. We have wonderful nanny tutors available and roles for the top tutor/nannies available.
Tutor Nannies often receive high salaries of up to £600-£1000 per week

Male nannies
They are also commonly referred to as "Manny". Male nannies are sought after, often by single mums with no father figure in the picture and families with a large number of boisterous boys. Some are highly educated and can do tutoring with the boys and some are very sporty which may be a benefit for a family that enjoy sports. Of course, male nannies also work for "standard" families.
