Studies
A lot of au-pairs decide to attend language classes for aupairs or students. Most Aupair English classes in London and the UK begin in September and January, although there are opportunities at other times. You will normally be expected to pay for your own English language course. Ask your aupair host family to help you to find a suitable English language school in your area or contact the team here as we have a list of schools that we like and that we can recommend to you. You can also find out what courses are available by going to your local library or search on the internet. There is often more than one to choose from. English language schools are excellent places for making friends in the area so it may be worth your while to sign up for a course when you arrive.
NEW!!! Free English Language Lessons Monday to Friday from 1.45 pm until 4.00 pm Join ANY TIME! Start Dates: August 22nd, 19th September, 24th October, 21st November 2011 It’s a good way to meet people and make friends and to improve your English. For more info on lanuage courses please contact the team.
Driving
If you have a full, clean driving license from another EU country, you should be permitted to drive in Britain for the first year of your stay. An International Driving license is even better, as it is a translated version of your EU licence.
Check the DVLA information if you want to know more.
If the family needs you to drive their vehicle, they will arrange appropriate insurance for the car you will be driving. We also ask them to provide you with a couple of lessons and time to practise before you drive on your own or with the children.
Please provide a copy of your license in advance, with your references. Please note that it will be much easier for you to find a host family if you are a confident driver but we also place non drivers.
