Insurance, health and safety
It's important that you get your own insurance for personal effects if this is something you want as you will not be insured for it in the UK. Check with your insurance company in your home country before you depart.
Most au-pairs will be able to use the National Health Service in case of accident or illness. The European Health Insurance Card is now available for aupairs and other travelers within the UK so contact your countries authorities to find out more.
Make sure to register with the family’s doctor. There is a small charge for each item of medicine. Au-pairs not from the EEC must enquire their home country if separate medical insurance is required before coming to the UK. Before you travel, please ensure that you are fit and in good health. If you need any dental treatment, you are advised to do this before you go.
Also, make sure that your family give you telephone numbers where they can be contacted in case of emergency. Make sure that you know how to contact police, fire and ambulance. For other European destinations or Australia please ask us about details.
Last but not least, if you haven't already booked a first aid course with us, we strongly suggest you do so asap. Please contact 02076009880 or info@peekaboochildcare.com for more info
